6 Steps to the Perfect Updo

Even wanted to try one of those fancy updos? The must-have chignon? The trendy top-knot? The classical french twist? This is a formal hairstyle you’d typically see at weddings, proms and on runways and red carpets. I stumbled upon this diy style guide and couldn’t believe how simple they are to create. All you need is a ponytail holder, a handful of bobby pins and your fingers. Yeah. It is really that easy.

making it your own

You can change up this style in many ways: (1) Add one of those braided headbands for a twist on the classical look. (2) Start with a side-pony to create a sophisticated, sexy look. (3) Add hair extensions to create a fuller, more dramatic look. (4) To take it even further, create 2 of them!

messy or polished – it just works

As you can imagine, you can pull off this ‘do’ in many ways. You can make it look very effortless by keeping it ‘messy’ – letting the hair strands just fall where they will. This seems to be the look of choice on the runways and red carpets. But some of us have a bit of OCD when it comes to our hair. In that case, keep a clean, sleek look by using a good hairspray like CHI Enviro Flex to keep flyaways inline.

I have to go to an event over the weekend and this hairstyle looks idle and simple.

I wish I had long hair again. I miss doing theses type of dos. It’s just growing past my neck but I’ve noticed this time it’s growing slow.

Hope you’re having a great weekend Nicole!

I have long hair, but I’m horrible at diy updos. :) I love this one, and I’ll give it a try. I usually do the side braid, since it’s about the only thing I can do that looks okay.

  4. I have to try this out. I have to dress up tonight and this is perfect!

  5. Sicorra says:

I love it. It looks easy and beautiful. I would need a lot of hair extensions to be able to do it though as my hair is shorter right now.

  6. Tanya says:

I love it! So simple. My hair is a little past my shoulders so it might work, although I’m due for a haircut! I love simple up-dos though. They look so elegant. Thanks for sharing!

Great tips – going to share with my niece who has long hair. Me? Can’t get my hair past my shoulders!
