I am no stranger to Shea Moisture products and have mentioned some of their
body bars on this blog before. Shea Moisture is a natural-based product line that you can find at some Targets and on
Amazon. I am a sucker for anything proclaimed as all-natural when it comes to my skin and hair. So I didn't hesitate to pick up the
Moisture Retention Shampoo. It is for dry, damaged hair. And, according to the packaging, is suppose to heal, grow and strengthen hair as well.
Argan oil, sea kelp, and shea butter are the 3 main ingredients. But I'll dig more into the ingredients in a bit. The shampoo is thick and lathers up A LOT. So depending on the thickness of your hair, you may only need a little. I was expecting my hair to feel moisturized to the touch after using this shampoo. But it didn't. It wasn't easier to detangle. It didn't define my curls. I just wasn't impressed with the results.
In addition to the non-impressive results, I must admit I'm a little concerned about its claim of being "all-natural." Generally, shampoos with 100% natural ingredients won't lather as much.
Moisture Retention Shampoo lathers up a lot! That leads me to believe it's not 100% natural. For this reason, I will only use this shampoo every 6 to 8 weeks when I want a deep cleansing. I also recommend doing a pre-treatment with this shampoo. Saturate your hair with either
coconut oil or olive oil for about 15 to 20 minutes prior to shampooing. Overall, I'd say
Moisture Retention Shampoo is an okay product if you're looking for a shampoo with Shea Butter infused. It's a little overpriced in my opinion ($22 on Amazon). But like I mentioned earlier, a little will really go a long way here.
